Trader Joe’s Hacks while maintaining the Summer bod

If you’re anything like me & everyone else I know, Trader Joe’s is grocery store heaven. They have the BEST products & they’re all fairly priced. We’re also hitting that time of year where our winter bods have to shed & we have to get back that summer body we once had.

The hard part about this process is that sometimes the cost of grocery shopping “healthy” foods doesn’t fit in the budget. I struggled with this for awhile; but have now developed my go to routine of grocery shopping yummy and healthy foods in the budget. Every time I leave Trader Joe’s in shock about how much money I saved, especially, because the whole time I am going back and forth with items, trying to not spend too much. I have my favorite products that I get every time but also swear that I find new ones every time I go (usually one ends up in my cart.)

Everyone can use some help while grocery shopping so I thought I’d treat you all with my Trader Joe’s grocery list. Now, one thing to keep in mind is that I am no expert on healthy foods. BUT, I do know what I like and what has kept my body feeling healthy.

One thing that has been key for me before leaving the store Is to make a mini list of the essentials I know I need (usually on my notes in my Iphone.) Even though sometimes I will just run through it all in my head at the store because I usually know what I need!

My Shopping  List

Vegetables have become key for me to buy because you can literally eat them with any meal. As well as freeze them so they last you awhile. The spinach, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers & garbanzo beans are what I use to make my salads; super easy and quick. The avocado’s are obviously for Avocado toast or for on top of my bagel. The rest are to pair with dinner or snack on!

  • 1 or 2 bags of Spinach

  • 1 package of Zucchini

  • Yellow Onion (you can also buy them sliced)

  • 1 bag of Avocados

  • 1 can of Garbanzo beans

  • 1 can of Black beans

  • 1 package of Persian cucumbers

  • 1 bag of sweet peppers

  • 1 package of Asparagus

  • 1 package of frozen Broccoli/Cauliflower (not pictured, already had purchased)

  • 1 package of frozen Brussel Sprouts (not pictured, already had purchased)

  • 1 bag of Villago Maranzo Tomotaoes

Meat is essential in my diet because it is my main source of protein. I typically really only eat ground turkey & chicken. I love to mix my veggies into my ground turkey or make my delicious tacos (see blog for recipe). I stumbled upon this sausage one day and have been addicted ever since. I love to put it in with my pastas or my eggs. They also have tons of other flavors besides this one. You can choose to buy both the chickens at the same time or one or the other. The frozen grilled chicken is usually for my salads or when I’m feeling lazy.

  • 1lb of all natural grilled chicken

  • 1lb of ground turkey

  • 1 bag of frozen grilled chicken strips)

  • 1 packet of chicken apple sausage

Frozen/quick meals:

We all love easy & quick meals, whether it’s for dinner or a quick lunch at work. These frozen meals are so cheap and quick that I have to purchase them every time. The burritos & enchiladas are usually my go to lunches when I don’t have enough time to make one the night before. The rest are perfect dinners for when you’re feeling lazy or tired.

  • 1 or 2 packages of Cheese enchiladas

  • 1 or two bags of Riced Cauliflower Stir Fry

  • 2 or 3 Black bean & cheese burritos

  • 1 bag of Orange Chicken

  • 1 bag of Chicken Fried Rice

  • 1 box of frozen brown rice

  • 1 bag of Edamame

These three salads are my favorite and I will purchase them every time I shop. They’re great for lunch and even dinner.

  • Caesar Salad

  • Classic Greek Salad

  • Mozzarella & Tomato Salad

I am a HUGE pasta person. It’s an actual obsession. Now this isn’t the healthiest obsession, which led me to purchasing whole wheat pasta & its perfect. You throw in that health aspect but can still indulge on your obsession. They have so many other options of pasta other than these two; I just prefer these ones because they are on the cheaper sides & are my favorite noodles.

  • 1 bag of Brown rice penne pasta

  • 1 bag of whole wheat Fusilli pasta

  • 1 can of Vodka sauce

Snacks & Extras:

Snacks, sauces, wine, etc. are just something that everyone should purchase. Mine vary every trip but I’ll list for you my favorites that should soon be yours.

  • 1 bag of White corn tortilla chips

  • 1 can of Salsa Autentica

  • 1 bag of plain bagels

  • 1 bag of whole wheat fiber bread

  • Green goddess salad dressing

  • Everything but the Bagel Sesame Seasoning

  • Mini Hold the cone Ice cream

  • La Finca Wine ( only 3.99 & they always have the 2 buck chuck Charles Shaw)

  • Balsamic Glaze (perfect for crackers & cheese)

  • Cage Free eggs

  • Light Cream Cheese

This part isn’t always included in my shopping trip but if you are ever wanting a pizza night, Traders is the place to go!

Here is what I use to make my perfect pizza:

  • Pizza dough (whole wheat or white)

  • Pepperoni

  • Prosciutto

  • Mozzarella Cheese

  • Pizza Sauce

  • Goat Cheese

(I also top my pizza with some spinach & onion to add a little kick)

Well folks, there you have it; all my Trader Joe Essentials! Now, what is key to remember is that you do not need to purchase all of these things at once. I usually see what I have and what I need and will go from there. But, I always stick to this list because I know it is in my price range & tastes good. Every grocery trip I leave spending exactly $100 on all my groceries or sometimes even less. Then I am set with groceries for about two weeks & will even still have a lot left over when it’s time to go on my next trip!

I hope you all find these items delicious and in budget. They all are pretty healthy in my terms, and the best part is that you don’t feel like you’re just eating grass with these meals.

Now get to shopping, shed off that winter bod & get that Summer bod started!

Thank you for reading my tips & hacks, and enjoy living simply but extravagant.
